This is a clip of Stephan’s interview about Geek Interview (Pt. 2) on The Studio D.
Welcome back to Studio D. Okay, so let's admit it. I can come off as kind of a geek on the show. However, I wanted to make sure and learn from an expert about how I can make being a geek something positive. So, here to chat with me and show me some great gadgets is the author and podcaster Stephan Spencer. How are you, buddy?
Dawson, Tom Hanks, Leo DiCaprio, eat your hearts out because we right now are going to transform you into the ultimate geek.
Fantastic! This is right up my alley.
All right. Let's start with The Muse Meditation Helper. Okay, put that behind your ears. It goes on your forehead.
Forehead first. Doesn't fit my big head.
On your forehead.
Doesn't fit my big head. Oh, there it goes. It stretches out.
There you go. There's a matching app for that. That helps you get in like a meditative state. That's awesome. Next up. Let's go with this one. This is the Spire, which is a breathing and mindfulness tracker. So, just clip that anywhere. It'll help you breathe more deeply, not shallow breathing up here, but from the Don Tien.
What's the gimmick with it? Like, or not gimmick, but how does it work? Like, what's it do? Give me.
It senses if you are breathing shallow, and it will give you a little nudge to say, "Hey, breathe deeper." from the belly, which is healthier.
Okay.
Next up, this is the HEALBE GoBe. This is awesome. Not only does it track the usual stuff like heart rate, but it also tracks your intake of carbs, proteins, and fats. So go ahead and stick that on your wrist.
Does it go with an app or anything?
Of course.
Everything has an app.
Everything has a matching app.
Okay, I'm double-watching it here.
Right. So that is pretty awesome. Now, you don't have to worry about tracking all your calories and being a geek.
Isn't just about, you know, what people think comic books and all that. And being into, I don't know, card games or anything. It's about magic, the gathering, magic gathering, dungeons and dragons, what have you. It's about really getting into something you love and really being passionate about it, right?Exactly. You could be a geek about anything. In fact, I say everybody's a geek about something. So this one, this next one, is a Zeo. Which is a sleep tracker that tracks your deep sleep, your light sleep, and your REM sleep. That's pretty cool.
Where's this go?
On your forehead.
Oh, it just goes on the forehead too?
Yep.
Okay.
It's a great look.
I got a big enough head for it?
It's an especially good look at night with your significant other.
Oh yeah, they're gonna love that.
Unfortunately, that device is no longer made. So, I just got this in, and I'm really excited to try it out. I've tried it once. It's called a Neuroon two O, is in there, right? It's not only a sleep tracker, tracking the usual stuff, deep sleep and all that, but it's also a light therapy device. Right, so it helps you get over jet lag.
Okay.
It helps you with waking up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the morning with Natural light. Yeah, really cool. So go ahead and stick that on.
Okay, was this just go over my over your eyes?
Yeah, you're not gonna be able to see anything loaded with everything.
I like these. I like it completely dark.
Yeah, it's completely dark Yeah, pretty cool. And then You gotta take that off.
Yeah, I gotta take that; I gotta take a couple of things off.
This is the coup de grace. This is the ultimate; this is the Iron Man 3 costume that I wore at Comic-Con.
Technically it's Iron Patriot, so.
Oh, Iron Patriot. Oh, okay, well. That's awesome. Well, you are a true geek. And we've confirmed that in the last segment, right?
Yeah, let's see.
I just know how to. How'd you take the quiz? I broke it. That's perfect. Now we've got to put on the helmet, which, you're not going to wear this while motorcycling.
No, but I have seen it made for motorcycle helmets.
So, okay. It's not, and you might need to take off the Zeo.
Yep. There we go.
That works.
You know what? Oh, that's a great look. Do you think you got me on this? Trying to geek me out, but brought my own for you.
Whoa.
Yeah, that is my own.
Nice. So that's heavy duty. Yeah. So awesome. Well, I'll tell you, you are now the ultimate geek, so congratulations, Matt.
Thank you so much.
Yeah. High five. So fist bump. There you go. Boom.
So, when you're doing all this, how does being a geek really help you with other, all the other aspects of your life? Like, what did you kind of take from finally embracing your geekness?
Well, if, you're running from something, you're not actually, like, being your best self, right? So, if you go in accepting and loving every part of yourself, and I'll tell you, being a geek, it's cool now.
It's not even something to be ashamed of. Right? So, in that study, 87% of all people surveyed said they do not feel the need to sneak their geek anymore. So, you just bring it. You bring all of yourself, and you're your best self.
Yep. Well, I was telling you what I've got, oh. I guess I look better with it on. I've got, like, I've got a bunch of geeky stuff and, like, way back in probably high school and stuff, I was kind of, like, told to put it away. And, you know, not real, this one lights up too.
Oh, it lights up. Of course, it does.
It's put all that away, and finally, I just embraced it all. I just put it out there, like, if you come into my apartment, I've got Power Rangers, ALF, and Big Movie Collector. I was telling you I worked at a theme park for a few years, so I jumped on all that, but yeah, and, personally, though, what have you used from sort of going through all these steps and everything?
Right, so, well, I created this podcast called Get Yourself Optimized, and I interview all these people—New York Times bestselling authors, experts on different aspects of geekiness, whether it's self-help geekiness or biohacking, as in quantitative self-tracking everything.
And real quick, what's your book? So everybody can go out and get it.
Geek Revolution. Awesome. Thank you so much. Well, when we come back, Warren takes you back to bed to tell you how a little morning stretch can start your day off just right. We'll be right back.
